Happy Birthday to Me

Well today is my birthday and this is how I would like to celebrate it (in the movie of my life where I am Audrey Hepburn).....being glamorous and sophisticated.

The reality is I will be at work and it is a school day so celebrations such as they are will have to wait.

One can dream though...right?

I miss her

My friend Lynnie passed away last night and I miss her dreadfully. I am sad that I won't get to listen to her crazy stories and her mad mad laugh. I won't see her kindness and her fabulous cooking and her talent at making gorgeous cards. She was a truly gifted artist in so many ways.

Not only was she a great and dear friend, but a wonderful mother and my heart is broken for her beautiful daughter and her wonderful partner. I am just glad she was in my life and know that her spirit will always be with us.

Blokes birthday's

I don't know about you, but amongst my family & friends there is very little call for male birthday cards. However, the other day I got a call from my mother in law asking if I would make a card for a family friend's (male) 80th birthday next week. Always happy to oblige her, I did and reproduced a card that I had made in a class with Rachel Greig of Darkroom Door last year.
Joyful Scraps had Rachel as their "Who's Who of Scrapbooking" for May and check out the Darkroom Door products here.

I didn't think to photograph it before I sealed it up, but then remembered that my boss's birthday is also next week so created another using the same stamp. On the first card I put a tag on the front which says "Timeless Classic circa 1931", on the inside of this card it says "You're not old, you're a classic" (I think I can get away with that as we have known each other for about 15 years).

Instead of the tag & twine that I used on the first one, on this one I added some Tim Holtz Tissue Tape.

All grown up

Time sure does fly and I have been trying for the longest time to avoid having my 14 (going on 29) year old wear high heels. Because she doesn't want (sorry.. NEED) kitten heels or sensible heels, she wants monster drag queen stilletos with 7" heels (these shown are not drag, just tring to illustrate a point and I am sure would look lovely on a 20 something young lady)

With her 15th birthday looming and her not having any "nice" winter shoes, we went shopping and she actually managed to get 2 pairs of not outrageously high heels, that we both liked. Her younger sister claims they are hideous, but if she's happy then I am happy (as long as she doesn't break her neck).

Everything happens for a reason

or so I am told...still not sure what the reasoning behind my medical issues are this year, but I guess I will find out at some stage...they say whatever doesn't kill you only makes you stronger - here's hoping!

My crafting has suffered a major setback resulting in me having to resign from the Green Tara design team and take a break from teaching classes with Joyful Scraps. I miss the fun & interaction with the lovely ladies and of course playing with yummy product.

This year may only be half over, but I seriously can't wait until next year where hopefully, life will return to normal and I guess if it doesn't then I will make that my new normal and deal with it. In the meantime I will continue blogging about the bits & pieces of craft that I find time to do and things that make me happy.

Today & Always

I have the bestest friends, not only do they care about me, but they make great cards (and other things) too.

Thankful

Well I have a lot to be thankful for - great friends and family that care about me, so here is yet another thank you card that I made to give to one of those special people.
